Strawberry Hill House is Horace Walpole’s little gothic castle in Strawberry Hill, part of Twickenham. It was built between 1747 and 1785 in a medieval architectural style contrary to the prevailing neoclassical style. The house was well preserved by Horace’s successors and further developed in a sympathetic style by Frances Lady Waldegrave in the nineteenth century. It was further preserved by St. Mary’s University College in the twentieth century. The Strawberry Hill Trust has now taken the original house back for restoration over the next two years and has fundraised from the Heritage Lottery Fund, from Foundations and Trusts from individual donors from the UK and USA.
